Joshua Aylett_MG-Boardroom-Chair-(3)_wWe’ve long admired the work of design research studLee Grant_MG_Boardroom-03_w2io Broached Commissions (Broached). Their approach to object design and use of Australian narrative is a beautiful thing. In 2013, while working with Broached on Hotel Hotel, we collaborated on the new Molonglo Group offices. Located above A. Baker within the NewActon1NewActon is a precinct on the edge of Canberra’s city centre that Molonglo Group is progressively restoring. It is built on the heritage grounds of Acton House, a late 1920s temporary housing facility for newly arrived employees of the capital. NewActon does at a precinct scale what the Burley Griffins attempted to achieve for the city: vegetable gardens deliver produce to the precinct restaurants; nature and architecture collide; and the architectural envelope folds into flora and art. The high-rise apartments (high but not too high) also feed into this ground level generously. precinct, this two-level workplace is now filled with commissioned pieces Joshua Aylett_MG-Boardroom-Chair-(4)_2Joshua Aylett_MG Boardroom_2 including a bespoke boardroom2“Boardrooms are a place where both ends of the business cycles are addressed: the excitement of the initial idea and the reconciliation of accounts. Boardrooms are to commercial life what the white cube is to the gallery world; a space in which concepts become realities simply because other people in the room agree that the idea is valid.” – Broached Commissions table and ten heavy-set chairs. Works by Adam Goodrum and Trent Jansen reflect a curatorial essay written by Broached director Lou Weis focusing on the history of Molonglo Group, as a business and as a migrant family story. Anon_Archives_Acton13_2 Outside of the boardroom, seven-metre long, leather-clad behemoth workstations were also created through our partnership with Broached.
