The Whole Earth. California and the Disappearance of the Outside
Editors: Diederichsen, Diedrich and Franke, Anselm
Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name in 2013 at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. Profusely illustrated in colour and black and white, including artworks and images of ephemera from the Whole Earth era. The publication includes “image-rich visual essays that explore key themes: ‘Universalism,’ ‘Whole Systems,’ ‘Boundless Interior,’ and ‘Apocalypse, Babylon, Simulation,’ among others. These are surrounded by critical essays that shed light onto 1960s California and the networked culture that emerged from it.” An important exhibit and book looking at the late-1960s-1970s counter-culture awakening from a critical perspective after the turn of the 21st century.
